Farmers-Led Custom Hiring Centres Established in Thanjavur District

Under RACLD’s Social Equity Wing, three Farmers-Owned and Managed Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) have been established in Konnerajapuram, Kulimathur, and Palamaneri Panchayats.
Three Farmer Interest Groups (15 farmers each) were formed and registered under the Societies Act. Under the Government’s SMAM scheme, each group received agricultural machinery worth ₹10 lakhs with 80% subsidy support.
Each CHC is equipped with a tractor, power tiller, rotavator, and paddy baler, enabling farmers to access farm machinery at approximately 20% lower cost than private rentals. The centres have significantly reduced cultivation costs and improved timely farm operations, particularly for paddy cultivation.
Due to increasing demand, the CHCs have already expanded their services by purchasing additional tractors, demonstrating the sustainability and success of the model.
